Ninja is an unlockable class armor, and something of a counterpart to the Pirate class. Katana-wielding, surreptitious warriors that debilitate foes through the use of poison, this armor can be used by all players, but some skills are Dragon Amulet Dragon Amulet only.

The armor can be unlocked at Shadow of the Wind Village by talking to Thyton, a jounin and the current leader of the Shadow of the Wind Clan. Upon being presented with the very rare "tactics" book Itchy Itchy Paradise, he will allow the player to equip the armor or, for Dragon Amulet owners, its Color Custom version. Afterwards, the player must bring Wind Scrolls to train the class' skills.

Skills are acquired by giving Wind Scrolls to Thyton, which are obtained by completing his random quests. Originally, slots would unlock by alternating between the right and left sides, but currently the left side unlocks first, then the right side. A total of 14 scrolls are required, although free-to-play players can forego learning the last seven skills: As with other classes, right-side skills are Dragon Amulet-locked.

The first version of the Ninja armor, released on October 2007, was marked—much like the Pirate class—by the presence of class-dependent skills. The furthest three skills on the left side would be available to the player depending on which was their base class of choice (Warrior, Mage, or Rogue), thus bringing the total of skills to 20. Skills that were present in this iteration are the following:[1]

Skills
  • Last Resort - Consumes all but 1 HP; 1 hit of 100% damage; applies 'Last Resort' (-100 Bonus) to target for 1 turn (cost: 20 MP; 14 CD; text: "Increased defense but lose HP").
  • Sha - Recovers 5% of self's max HP; applies 'Heal' (recovers 5% of max HP) to self for 3 turns (15 MP; 9 CD; "20% heal over 4 turns").
  • Mimic - 1 hit of X% damage equal to target's last hit; unlocked after using Rin (30 MP; 14 CD; "Mimics enemy's last attack").
  • DeathWish - 3 hits of 80% damage (total 240% dmg.) with -50 Crit; unlocked after using Fade (30 MP; 9 CD; "Mega Attack").
  • Warrior Sword Icon
  • Mage Staff Icon
  • Rogue Dagger Icon
  • Zukuri - 1 hit of 100% damage; applies 'Weaken' (-30% Boost) to target for 2 turns (0 MP; 0 CD; "-30% enemy dmg for 3 turns").
  • Rin - Applies 'Rin' (+10 STR) to self for 5 turns (0 MP; 0 CD; "+ 10 strength for 5 rounds").
  • Futae - 2 hits of 60% damage (total 120% dmg.); unlocked after any successful attack (10 MP; 4 CD; "Quick 1-2 with sword and wakizashi!").
  • Qi - 1 hit of 100% damage to all enemies; applies 'Weaken' (-30% Boost) to targets for 2 turns (Magic; 10 MP; 6 CD; "-30 Boost to all enemies for 5 turns").
  • Rin - Applies 'Rin' (+10 INT) to self for 5 turns (0 MP; 0 CD; "+ 10 intelligence for 5 rounds").
  • Kai - 1 hit of 100% damage; applies 'Kai' (-10 elem. res.) to target for 4 turns (40 MP; 9 CD; "+10 resist to <element>").
  • Dokusei - 1 hit of 100% damage and effect of Poisons doubled; 1 hit of 120% dmg. otherwise (Pierce; 5 MP; 2 CD; "120% Dmg Or 2x DOT Dmg on poisoned enemy").
  • Rin - Applies 'Rin' (+10 STR) to self for 5 turns (0 MP; 0 CD; "+10 strength for 5 rounds").
  • Byousou - 1 hit of 150% damage if Fade effect is active; 1 hit of 100% dmg. otherwise (Pierce; 10 MP; 14 CD; "Extra Dmg on Fade").

This version was retired on February 6, 2015, and its skills overhauled to focus more on poison effects, removing all base class-dependant skills. It was also given a default 2.25x crit damage modifier.[2] The class armor's graphics were later updated on February 2018, alongside Shadow of the Wind Village itself. Additionally, both Color Custom Ninja and Old Ninja were added to the Armor Closet.[3] Skills present in this version were:

  • Spider Venom - 4 hits of 30% damage (total 120% dmg.); applies -45 Melee/Pierce/Magic and 'Hard to Move' (20% chance paralysis per turn) to target for 4 turns; unlocked after any successful attack (cost: 26 MP; 9 CD; text: "Slow your foe and limit movement").
  • Scorpion Venom - 1 hit of 40% damage; applies 'Scorpion Venom' (40% Magic wpe. dmg.) to target for 7 turns (22 MP; 7 CD; "Poison your foe with scorpion venom").

On April 21, 2023, Ninja received another major update and rework. These two skills were condensed into Viper Venom to form a new combo skill, Envenom (its applied effect now cycling from Spider to Scorpion to Viper Venom, and back), and their skill slots were replaced by Shadow Seal and Shadow Seeker. Its crit damage modifier was changed to the default 1.75x, and it was given two new mechanics. The first is Ambush, which consists of a free additional turn that occurs at the start of battle or as a follow-up to certain skills; Ambushes cannot be chained, however, meaning the extra turn effect is wasted if used on the second turn of another Ambush skill.[4]

The second is the Catalytic Flow skill, for its part, applies an effect of the same name on the player based on the number of non-Burst Venoms active on one's target: +25% Boost at 1 Venom; adds to that +100 Bonus at 2 Venom; and finally, adds to those +200 Crit and an Ambush at 3 Venom. Additionally, as long as this effect is active, certain skill slots are replaced by their Burst version.[4] Soon after the major update, class skills were slightly tweaked, and the trinket Honda's Accord was announced to interact with the class in the future.[5]
